Item Description:  A Gateshead Councillor from 1878 and elected Alderman in 1891, he was also the Chairman of the Libraries Committee from 1892-1917. Born in Glasgow and was a surveyor and architect with his office at 16 West Street. Died at his home 54 Bewick Road and is buried in Saltwell Cemetery.
