Title:  Children's Hospital, Dryden Road, Gateshead.

Photographer:  Unknown
Date:  Date Unknown
Reference Number:  GL001351

Item Description:  Dryden's farm after which the road took its name stood on the site of the current fire station. The farm fields extended southwards between Old Durham Road and Durham Road to Denewell Avenue. A rough farm track known as Dryden's Lane (now Dryden Road) ran between the farm fields right up to Kells Lane. On the east of this lane the only building in this vast stretch of fields from Inskip Terrace to Kells Lane was the Children's Hospital shown in this photograph (Manders, 1973). The photograph probably shows the laying of the foundation stone for the hospital although the date in unknown.
